Multiple Sclerosis Diary

Dec. 17

My left foot stayed dead

cold for much of today,

like I have one foot

already in winter.

Dec. 18

Focusing is like trailing smoke

as it meets its afterlife.

Dec. 19

Annual MRI today.

My cold left foot cannot escape the feeling

that I’m wearing too small a shoe,

but my shoes fit. And I’m barefoot.

Dec. 20

Fatigue rises and descends

like two hands coming together

to flatten a fly.

Dec. 21

The doctor calls. My brain’s

lesions continue to grow, he tells me.

I repeat the words again

and again: continue to grow.
