Gerard Sarnat

cold turkey diary

     heavy cologne --
dregs of rotgut bottle’s
anonymous flowers
turned
    masks your foul stink
of draining abscesses +
cheap marijuana sweet
smoke
    as genius junkie alley
cats’ matching mustard
yellow Nosferatu fangs
score
    smack in our anti-hero
& heroine’s awful pitiless
sour war versus everything
decent.

    during that last fantastic
rush of relief, we vow nada
more before bloody diarrhea
intervenes:
    dumbstruck as a bedpan
lifted from County Hospital
where admitted for fulminant
hepatitis
    (to which I’m now banned),
my GF’s coma is on a ventilator
while I rubberneck the chaplin’s
sermon
    something about inner peace
or tube’s duration of existence --
it’s unclear as I aim to boost/ vamp
pills.
